Thy Kingdom Come - Day 7 Wednesday 27 May

As a church musician (a choirboy from the age of 8yo!), the phrase "Thy Kingdom Come"
always makes me think of the vision of St John, in the Book of Revelation (Chapter 21),
where John speaks of the New Jerusalem in these words:

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among
the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with
them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’
or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

It's in musical settings where the full force of these words hits me, in the beautiful old song,
"The Holy City" by Stephen Adams, or the anthem beloved of cathedral choirs
"And I saw a new heaven" by Edgar Bainton.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Look at the first person on your list.
Is there a way that you could
reach out to them today?
Maybe an email or Facebook message just to
let them know that you are thinking of them.
Pray for them.

Pray for the other four names on your list.
